Abstract

The techniques of X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis were utilized to demonstrate the presence of and to study the thermal behavior of the crystalline lipid structure in human and neonatal rat stratum corneum. It was found that the lipid structure as well as its thermal behavior is somewhat dependent upon the source of the stratum corneum. Results are also presented regarding thermal stability and moisture absorption.
