Abstract

A hollow-waveguide array with sub-wavelength dimensions was suggested earlier as a space-variant polarization converter. For optimum light transmission through the array, periodic structured illumination is generated by using a dielectric grating with the same period. In this paper various numerical simulations are performed. The transmission depends on numerous parameters. Particularly, it is shown how the grating can be optimized and how longitudinal and lateral displacements influence the results. For the considered configuration it is found that the transmission can be increased by factors up to 1.46 (TE) and 1.35 (TM) compared to a uniform illumination of the hollow waveguide array.
