Abstract

The structure of the pearlite of rail steel after hot working and sorbitization was investigated by transmission electron microscopy of thin foils with the use of the dark field method. The pearlite grains of the sorbitized rail steel consist and cementite in the elastically stressed state while in the hot-rolled steel the pearlite grains with an average volumetric dislocation density of not less than 1010 cm−2 are divided into subgrains with a size of 3 μm and fragments with a size of about 0.5 μm.
