Abstract

The structure of the O-specific polysaccharide of Klebsiella pneumoniae O1K2 lipopolysaccharide was investigated by use of methylation, periodate oxidation, partial hydrolysis, and 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy. It was shown to consist of a linear chain composed of two disaccharide repeating units, [→3)-α- d-Gal p-(1→3)-β- d-Gal p-(1→/] and [→3)-α- d-Gal p-(1→3)-β- d-Gal f-(1→/].
