Abstract

The structure of diacetylene compounds [CH 3(CH 2) 17CCCC COOX; X= H, 1 2 Cu 2−] in monolayers has been studied by infrared linear dichroism. These compounds crystallize in a system with one molecule per unit cell. The aliphatic chain and the diacetylene skeleton are strongly inclined (45°) from the normal to the layers. By ESR measurements the orientation of paramagnetic g tensor of copper has been determined. The last measurements show that the hydration state of the polar head does not influence this orientation but modifies strongly the magnetic coupling between copper ions.
