Structure of magnesium alloys with zinc and rare earth metals

Abstract

1. In alloys of Mg with misch metal the rare earth metals cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, and praseodymium are found in the solid solution rich in Mg and in the heterogeneous phase Mg9MM. This phase is formed with Mg of the “binary” system with a limited solubility in the solid state. 2. In “ternary” alloys of the Mg-Zn-MM type a “ternary” phase occurs, corresponding to the formula Mg20Zn5ΣREM2.
