Abstract

A polysaccharide containing d-galactose, d-glucose and d-mannose in the mole ratio of 1:4·1:9·7 has been isolated from poplar ( Populus monilifera H.) wood. Structural studies were performed by glycosyl linkage composition analysis, 13C-NMR spectroscopy and partial hydrolysis. From these experiments a structure for the polysaccharide is proposed.
