Abstract

The effects of strong acids, water and alcohol on the structure of ethylenediamine have been investigated by measuring the IR absorption in the ND stretching band region of partly deuterated amine. Absorption continua have been found and interpreted in terms of Zundel's theory of easily polarizable hydrogen bonds. Conclusions are drawn on interactions of the anions, water and alcohols with the ethylenediamine molecules.
