Abstract

Small icosahedral palladium particles have been studied using high resolution electron microscopy. In these small particles (d⩽15 nm) no dislocations have been found so that internal strains are necessary to maintain their coherency. The structural deformations induced by these strains have been investigated and compared to existing models.
