Abstract

A novel quaternary ammonium (BQD) with good inhibitive performance is separated from the synthesis of N-Benzylquinolinium Chloride (BQC). The formula of BQD was C32H23N2Cl and its structure is characterized by NMR, LC-HRMS, FT-IR. The formation mechanism of BQD is proposed. The corrosive inhibition of BQD is investigated in 15% HCl. The corrosion rate is 1.98gm−2h−1 when the concentration of BQD is 0.744mmolL−1. The adsorption of BQD on the steel obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The standard free energy of adsorption of BQD is −54.48kJmol−1, indicating a strong chemisorption of BQD onto the steel.
