Abstract

Abstract The title compound [K(18C6)][PtCl3(C4Me4)] · 3 CH2Cl2 (1), C23H42Cl9KO6Pt, crystallizes from methylene chloride/n-hexane in the monoclinic space group Cc with lattice constants a = 17.346(3)Å, b = 12.074(2) Å, c = 17.937(4) Å, β = 94.74(3)°, Z = 4. The crystal structure was solved by the heavy atom method. The refinement converged to final wR2 = 0.113 for 3710 reflections (R1 = 0.046 for 3133 observed reflections). Compound (1) represents the first structurally characterized anionic (cyclobutadiene)platinum(II) complex. Apart from some weak hydrogen bond interactions, (1) consists of discrete molecules [K(18C6)][PtCl3(C4Me4)] with close cation-anion contacts (K…Cl 3.097 Å–3.482 Å) and dichloromethane molecules. The Pt–Cl distances are almost of the same length (2.445 Å–2.455 Å), while the Pt–C distances are in the range from 2.08 Å–2.19 Å. The cyclobutadiene ring is planar and the C–C–C bond angles range from 87(1)°–93(1)°.
