Abstract

The structure of the ATI spectra of alkali atoms under strong ultrashort pulses is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Substructures due to the strong coupling of a few bound states are found through a non‐perturbative calculation which also demonstrates significant Rabi‐like oscillations in the populations of these states. Experimental results in Cs and Li exhibit high order ATI peaks as well as some of the features of the substructures.
