Abstract

The small-x behavior of the proton structure function F 2 p (x, Q2) is investigated within a generalized Regge eikonal model that takes automatically into account the unitarity condition for processes involving off-shell particles. A good quality of description of experimental data for x<10−2 is achieved, and the assumption that data on F 2 p (x, Q2) that were obtained at the HERA collider can be described by using classical universal Regge trajectories is validated. In doing this, hypothetical hard trajectories with large intercepts are not used. The x and Q2 slopes and the effective intercept are considered as functions of x and Q2.
