Abstract

In the layer adjacent to the surface of rebar hardened by discontinuous quenching, abnormal pearlite colonies are formed in the eutectoidal transformation of supercooled austenite, with decrease in the carbon content. Plate-pearlite colonies are formed after the depleted austenite is enriched by the deposition of excess ferrite.
