Abstract

The chemical nature of the dispersion medium has a considerable influence on the formation of structure in lubricating greases, and also on their structural-mechanical and colloidal properties [1-3]. In the literature on bentonite greases, the treatment of this particular question is inadequate [4, 5]. In order to establish how the structure-forming capability of an organobenotnite and the properties of the greases prepared from this thickening agent are influenced by the chemical nature of the dispersion medium, we have investigated the use of petroleum and synthetic oils in preparing such greases (Table i).
