Abstract

Abstract The structure factors of liquid alkali metals are calculated by treating a system of charged hard spheres (CHS), embedded in a rigid, uniform and neutralizing background. With the use of this model as a reference, the effects of responding electrons are taken into account in random phase approximation. The results obtained for the static structure factor of alkali metals are in good agreement with the experimental data.
