Abstract

The current concepts concerning the structure of fibres and fibre materials were analyzed based on an examination of their morphological and energetic characteristics at four fundamental structural levels: molecular (chemical structure), supramolecular (nano-) level, microlevel (fibre) and macrolevel (fibre material). The features of the structural dependence of the mechanical properties and the structural mechanics of the oriented polymers (fibres) are discussed. The principles and methodology for predicting the properties of fibres and fibre materials with methods of polymer physics and physical chemistry are examined.
