Abstract

The Stopford and Wells study of structure in multi-national corporations produced a model relating certain types of international structure to certain types of international strategy. This paper reexamines the important relationships expressed by the model, using data from a recent study of 50 large European and U.S. multinationals. Since the data fail to support some important implications of the model, a revised model is developed.
