Abstract

Pr 2Ba 2Cu 2Ti 2O 11, a possible new superconducting parent phase, was prepared by a standard ceramic method. Intermediate products were identified by X-ray powder diffraction. Rietveld analysis revealed the layered perovskite crystal structure of Pr 2Ba 2Cu 2Ti 2O 11 and the relationship to known superconductors. The physical properties were investigated by impedance spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The redox chemistry of Pr 2Ba 2Cu 2Ti 2O 11 was examined using thermogravimetry. The reduction of Cu II via Cu I to Cu 0 was observed and a reversible re-oxidation of Cu I to Cu II was found.
