Abstract

The possibilities of increasing the service life of machines and mechanisms by improving the properties of steels and alloys by conventional heat treatment methods or the use of other grades of steel of the same class have virtually been exhausted. However, the application range of metallic materials can be widened considerably by affecting the functional surfaces with the aim to change their properties. It is especially important that various coatings can be obtained for specific parts and operational conditions. The development of new methods for depositing the coatings makes it possible to widen the range of treated metallic parts with additional operational characteristics. In the present work we give the results of a study of the structure and properties of an aluminum coating obtained by a comparatively new method of surface plastic deformation with simultaneous deposition of the coating (SPDwC).
