Abstract

Coatings obtained by electron-beam overlaying of “titanium - titanium carbide” composite powders were investigated. The composite powders have been prepared by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) in titanium and carbon reactive powder mixtures. Structural studies of the powders synthesized and of the clad coatings were carried out by X-ray diffractometry, optical metallography, and scanning electron microscopy. The coatings were tested on hardness and abrasive wear resistance. Testing results were discussed in the combination with structure investigation results.
