Abstract
The intermetallic coating phase composition, fine structure, and surface morphology have been investigated by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It is shown that Ni3Al is the primary phase in the intermetallic coating for all samples studied. The NiAl and AlFe3C phases are present in small amounts. It is established that ion beam treatment of the coating changes its structural characteristics and radically transforms the character of coating wear.
