Abstract

AbstractBlends of PEI with PSU were prepared directly during the plasticization step of an injection molding process. The phase behavior, the morphology and the mechanical properties of the blends were determined. The blends were composed of an almost pure PEI phase and a PSU‐rich phase. The particle size was very small, indicating a low interphase tension that is attributed to the presence of PEI in the two phases of the blends. The modulus of elasticity of the blends was close to that of the additive. The impact strength was higher than that of PEI. The tensile strength and elongation at break were also almost additive, despite the biphasic nature of the blends, indicating the existence of good interfacial adhesion.magnified image
