Abstract

Abstract A new compound Gd 3 (Fe 0.665 Co 0.313 Ti 0.022 ) 29 with Nd 3 (Fe,Ti) 29 -type structure was synthesized. The crystal structure of Gd 3 (Fe 0.665 Co 0.313 Ti 0.022 ) 29 is refined by Rietveld analysis with a monoclinic lattice and a space group P2 1 /c derived from the CaCu 5 -type structure. The lattice constants a , b , c and the unit cell volume V are decreased by the substitution of cobalt for iron. The compound shows a high Curie temperature of 886 K and a planar anisotropy. The saturation magnetization of the compound is slightly higher than that of its parent compound Gd 3 (Fe 0.978 Ti 0.022 ) 29 .
