Abstract

The UV dye, BPBD-365, 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-t-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol, doped hybrid slabs were fabricated by the sol–gel method. The hybrid gel possesses a more compact structure and flexibility. The UV transmittance of this hybrid is as excellent as that of SiO 2 host. Under transverse pumping by a XeCl laser, the laser output efficiencies of the dye-doped hybrid can be up to 8.5%. The stability of the laser output for dye-doped hybrid is much higher than that of the dye-doped SiO 2 matrix. Through changing pumping region periodically, avoiding the thermal accumulation in hybrid, the stability of hybrid is further significantly improved.
