Abstract
The article focuses on the structure and functions of the encyclopedic article, the problem of in linguistics and variative features of articles (case study of American and British linguistic cultures). The article aims at achieving different tasks: to define the terms discourse and biographical discourse; to distinguish the functions of articles; to analyze the structure of articles. In our research we used such methods as: functional, definitive and structural-semantic analysis.
