Abstract

Subject. Socio-political and economic transformations of recent decades have brought about changes in the function of libraries, which are the concentration of information resources of the society. The unique position of libraries in the socio-economic system of the State predetermines the need for the formation of new, innovative approaches to manage their activities. Objectives. The aim of the study is to perform a comprehensive analysis of the essence of innovation potential of the library as a center of digital competencies for the promotion of innovative services for readers, authors, the society, the government, and business. Methods. The study rests on scholarly works of domestic and foreign scientists in the field of economic theory, management theory, theory of strategy, and innovation management. Results. The paper presents my own definition of the innovation potential of a library, which helped identify its specifics and component structure, i.e. technological, personnel, financial, marketing, organizational, and information components. Conclusions. Determination of the composition and structure of innovation potential of the library is a defining moment for a reasonable choice of priorities and directions in the formation of a strategy for advanced development. As a result of implementation of program activities of the strategy, libraries will play the role of a social institution being a center of digital competencies in the information society.
