Abstract

1H and 13C NMR spectra of poly allyl acetate, prepared in bulk with initiator benzoyl peroxide, were measured and analysed using spectral editing technique, DEPT, and two-dimensional NMR techniques, COSY and HMQC. Peaks due to end groups resulting from initiation and chain transfer, and triad structures of the main chain were assigned, and an ambiguity in previous assignment corrected. The assignment of the peaks in the spectra of poly(allyl acetate) was extended to the spectra of poly(CR39) prepared after 10% conversion. The peaks were used to estimate different end groups in the polymer structure and degree of polymerization of both polymers. Spectra were also used to estimate cyclization in poly(CR39).
