Abstract

The influence of high power pulsed ion beam (the ion energy is 250 keV, the pulse duration is 100 ns) on the surface topography, structure and phase composition of cold deformed stainless steel were studied by scanning electron microscopy, electron backscattering analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. It was shown that surface defects like craters were formed on the surface of steel after irradiation. Variation the number of pulses was found to change the grain size and the content of $\alpha-\mathrm{Fe}$ in surface layers.
