Abstract
The effect of nitrogen ion irradiation on binary Fe alloys has been investigated. At depths more than 10 3 times larger than the projected ion range, non-thermal phase transformations, e.g. bcc to fcc in FeNi, a random distribution to a long range order in FeAl, and a supplementary ordering in FeSi have been detected. The surface layer of the Fe 65Al 35 alloy has been revealed to separate into pure Fe and Al.
