Abstract

This paper deals with the structural study of Zr(Cr1−χFeχ)2Dγ (0.4 <χ < 0.75; 2 <γ < 3) deuterides. In this range, intermetallic and deuteride compounds crystallize in the C14 structure of the MgZn2 type. By means of a neutron diffraction analysis, the distribution of iron on the chromium sublattice and the localization of D atoms have been determined. Results are discussed in terms of nature and size of D sites, which are used to explain the capacity changes observed in this system as a function of iron concentration.
