Abstract

Structural response and crashworthiness of ship side structure requires considerations during the structural design stage. Although most ship collision accidents happen in oblique scenarios, but the research on ship oblique collision scenarios is insufficient, compared to those on head-on collision scenarios. In this paper, an analysis in structural response of ship side structure in oblique collision scenarios was conducted. The deformation mechanism of ship side structure in oblique collision scenarios was analyzed based on the plastic mechanism in analytical way. Then structural deformation resistance formulas for ship side structural components were proposed. The accuracy of the proposed resistance formulas was validated by numerical simulations, and the research results can be used to evaluate the performance of ship side structure in oblique collision scenarios.
