Abstract

Neutron powder diffraction was used to study the structural properties of NdBa 2Cu 3− x Ga x O 7− y , 0 < × < 0.5. Ga substitutes for the chain Cu sites in Nd123 compounds. The O(5) occupancy increases with Ga substitution leading to an orthorhombic to tetragonal transition near x ≈ 0.09. The NdO-bond distances and bond angles vary systematically with the Ga substitution. The changes are discussed in comparison with that in the unsubstituted Nd123 compounds with different oxygen content.
