Abstract

Straw after grain harvested scattered in field would cause serious environmental pollution and waste of resources. It is more conducive to the sustainable development of agricultural environment to pick straw and remove straw from field instead of burning it or landfill it directly. In this paper, in order to reduce the labor intensity of manually picking straw, a crawler picking and baling machine was developed and used to test bundling capacity of straw baler. This crawler picking and baling machine can self-walking in field, pick up scattered straw, compress and bale the straw, and finally move it away from the field. Based on the conceptual model of crawler picking and baling machine, its working mechanism and parameter model were analyzed to develop the structural design model. This structural model can improve driving convenience, picking straw efficiency, compress baler density, and remove baler capacity for straw scattered in filed. This structural design model was used to produce physical of crawler picking and baling machine. Results indicated that, the crawler picking and baling machine can be operated smoothly with a continuous picking and baling productivity of 0.61 hm2/h. The bundling mean size of baler was high × width × length 36 × 46 × 66 cm with bale density115–126 kg/m3. The bundle ratio of baling straw in filed was 99%, which was subject to the reliability of the knotter. The structural design model of crawler picking and baling machine was an important technical support to deal with the straw wasted in field.
