Abstract

Many Heusler compounds exhibit Half-Metallic Ferromagnetism (HMF), and Ti2CrAl was predicted by earlier ab-initio calculations to be a Heusler compound which is near the HMF state. In this report, we examined polycrystalline Ti2CrAl sample using resistivity vs. temperature and resistivity vs. the magnetic field, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements. We did not observe any magnetic ordering which would be expected for HMF type of material. The magnetoresistivity is also relatively moderate. We found that the sample exhibits an unexpected superconducting transition below 6.5 K in resistivity data, but no Meissner effect or lambda type hump in specific heat is visible. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) survey does not reveal any inclusions or significant inhomogeneities in sample stoichiometry.
