Abstract

The kinetic features of the formation of hyperbranched polymers via the copolycondensation of AB2- and CB f -type polymers (A and B are functional groups; subscripts denote the number of groups B in molecules), including those in the presence of the first shell substitution effect in the primary sphere, are considered in this paper. The effects of the ratio between monomer concentrations, [CB f ]0/[AB2]0, and the functionality of the root monomer, f, on the degree of branching and the molecular-mass distribution of the reaction product are studied. It is shown that ultimate polydispersity index γ(1) is described by the equation γ(1) = K 1 + K 2 r −1 f −2, where K 1 and K 2 are empirical constants.
