Abstract

Filled skutterudite compounds attracted many researchers' interest as strongly correlated electron systems. The skutterudite family includes binary, unfilled skutterudite compounds. We have studied the powder x-ray diffraction of unfilled skutterudite compounds TSb3 (T=Rh and Ir) under high pressure up to around 40 GPa, using synchrotron radiation. Pressure-induced irreversible structural changes of TSb3 (T=Rh and Ir) have been observed. Structural instability of the unfilled skutterudite compounds TSb3 (T=Co, Rh and Ir) under high pressure is discussed.
