Highlights

  • In this paper I consider whether structural injustice can capture the harms of the beauty ideal and recognize their significance

  • Body dissatisfaction is so prevalent that we find it odd if a woman is not dissatisfied with her body and does not want to change it

  • If we focused not on individual beauty engagement, but on changing the culture to be less critical, blaming, shaming, and demanding, it is possible we would reduce body image anxiety and feel less pressure to do more to make the beauty grade
