Abstract

The nature of the various artistic features of Biblical Hebrew poetry has, in recent years, interested many scholars (Cooper 1976; Gevirtz 1963; Gray 1972; Mowinckel 1957. Schramm 1976). The features dealt with include: parallelism (Newman and Popper 1918; Willis 1979); meter (Stuart 1976); wordplay (Holladay 1970; Watson 1981); structural units (Van Dyke Parunak 1981; Revell 1981); alliteration, stylistics (Gerleman 1951; Ridderbos 1963); envelope figure (Moulton 1896); strophes (Kraft 1983; Montgomery 1945).
