Abstract

Local atomic structural changes associated with the exothermic heat flow in the supercooled liquid of Zr36Ti24Be40 metallic glass have been studied by using pair distribution function analysis. The exothermic heat flow that used to be interpreted as double glass transition is attributed to the evolution of short range ordering towards the final crystallization product in the supercooled liquid.
