Abstract

Joists with corrugated panel webs are a structural solution that has been little tested on wood-based materials. This study has the objective to develop the potential of wooden I-joists with two different web configurations. Joists with corrugated webs were manufactured and tested in bending tests to determine their mechanical properties. The shear capacity of a joist with a single-panel corrugated web is only 45 %, while a joist with a double-panel corrugated web offers 87 % compared with commercial I-joists. The failure mode of joists is initiated by buckling, followed by the creation of diagonal tension lines in the corrugated web.
