Abstract

In the present work, the dielectric CoTiO3 and the magneto-electric multiferroics BiCo0.5Ti0.5O3 and 0.5BiCo0.5Ti0.5O3-0.5PbTiO3 were developed by a chemical modification route. The structural, micro-structural, dielectric, impedance, conductivity, ferroelectric and magneto-electric properties of the studied compounds were investigated. Structural analysis of the materials showed that rhombohedral structure of CoTiO3 transforms into orthorhombic structure on addition of bismuth in it (i.e. in BiCo0.5Ti0.5O3) and tetragonal structure on further addition of lead titanate (i.e. in 0.5BiCo0.5Ti0.5O3-0.5PbTiO3). From the dielectric analysis and P-E hysteresis measurements, it is observed that CoTiO3 is non-ferroelectric, whereas the compounds formed after modifications with bismuth and lead titanate not only exhibit ferroelectricity, but also magneto-electric multiferroicity.
