Abstract

Perovskites are ideal ferroelectric materials. The research of perovskite ferroelectrics has been recently extended to hybrid counterparts, some of which have displayed exceptional functional properties beyond those of conventional ones, owing to the introduction of organic components. The previous effective synthesis strategy mainly uses halogen ions to construct inorganic components, while using dynamical polar organic cations to achieve ferroelectricity. To achieve new functions and/or better performance, there is an urgent need to develop new hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics. By choosing nitrate as the bridging ligand, we developed a new family of AMX3-type hybrid perovskites: AM(NO3)3 (A is an organic cation and M is an alkaline metal ion), many of which display excellent ferroelectricity. Their structural diversity and tunable ferroelectricity make them suitable for a wide range of potential applications. The results reveal that nitrate perovskites provide a promising platform for achieving novel properties, and more hybrid perovskites can be prepared by using nitrate as the X-site anion.
