Abstract

Structural rearrangements in LiNbO3 (0.55–1.24 mol% B2O3 in the charge) single crystals are investigated using the concentration dependence of the main line parameters in Raman spectra and photoinduced light scattering. It is shown that B3+ cations change the melt structure although they are practically not incorporated into the LiNbO3 crystal cation sublattice. LiNbO3:B single crystals grown from such a structured congruent melt are characterized by high structural and optical homogeneity in addition to a low photorefractive effect.
