Abstract

Antibody to purified rat liver adenylate kinase isozyme III was prepared in rabbits. The antibody preparation inhibited the activity of liver adenylate kinase III, but did not affect the activity of liver adenylate kinase I, II, or IV. The antibody preparation inhibited the adenylate kinase activity from various rat tissues at a percentage equivalent to the percentage of isozyme III in those tissues. Ouchter lony double diffusion analysis revealed single precipitated bands between liver isozyme III and both liver and kidney cytosols. It is likely that the cytoplasmic adenylate kinase II is structurally distinct from the mitochondrial adenylate kinase III.
