Abstract

Abstract Measurements of acoustic attenuation and relative acoustic velocity at megahertz frequencies have been made between 1 and 150 K in (AgI)x (Ag2O-nB2O3)1-x glasses for 0≤x≤0·6 and 2≤n≤10. The composition-dependent acoustic loss is analysed and correlated with the formation of BO4 tetrahedral units. The low activation energies obtained from the analysis are associated with the rotation of these tetrahedra.
