Structural Concrete aligns to a sustainable, digital future

Abstract

Structural Concrete will be published in online-only format, effective from the first issue of 2023. This editorial marks the last printed issue of the journal. As the official journal of the fib, Structural Concrete publishes top quality research and technical articles in the field of concrete structures. Since partnering with Wiley in 2017, we have increased in impact and secured a global audience. We have introduced new article types to bridge the gap between research and practice (the Short Project Notes) and our dedicated Editorial Board and Editorial Advisory board help to provide a thorough peer review process to improve submitted papers. Aligned with the fib commitment to sustainable practices, the move to online-only is a proactive approach towards reducing the environmental impact caused by print. An e-only format removes the carbon created from paper production, printing, and shipping of physical copies. Equally, in recent years, institutions and libraries have shown a clear preference for online subscriptions over print. Over time, the number of subscriptions to the printed journal have declined, but the number of papers being downloaded continues to increase. As the move towards a more open publishing landscape continues, we expect to see this trend continue as authors seek fast and easy access to content. Articles will continue to be disseminated quickly, so that they can be shared, saved, and easily searched for. Time to first decision is 6 weeks on average and time from acceptance to Early View publication is approximately 3 weeks. Readers can find articles through popular search engines or through the journal's broad network of indexing services including Web of Science and Scopus.
