Abstract

Two different chemical methods (co-precipitation from solution of diethylene glycol and cryogenic method) for the synthesis and dispersing of magnetic nanoparticles into water with coating by double layer of sodium oleate are compared with respect to the final structural organization of magnetic fluids obtained. Basing on the data of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), small-angle X-ray (SAXS) and neutron (SANS) scattering it was shown that both methods result in stable in time solutions of polydisperse magnetite particles with the average size of about 10 nm, which are partially aggregated. The aggregation rate is different for the two types of the systems, which correlates with the aggregate density and surfactant content in them determined by the SANS contrast variation (H/D substitution in solvent).
