Abstract

ABSTRACT An analysis of the effect of Gd impurities on the structural and dielectric properties was performed in the Sr1 −xGdxBi2Ta2O9 and Sr1 −xGdxVyBi2Ta2O9 ceramics systems for different compositions. Rietveld analysis was performed in all cases. The temperature dependence of the dielectric constant (ϵ /ϵo) was useful to describe the nature of phase transition in both systems. A non Curie-Weiss behavior above the transition temperature is observed. It is found that in both, Sr1 −xGdxBi2Ta2O9 and Sr1 −xGdxVyBi2Ta2O9 systems, the diffuseness coefficient γ values are around 2 indicative of diffuse behavior. The analysis is complemented with a study of the dielectric constant as a function of frequency and the results are explained in terms of the high disorder associated to the random location of the Gd ions in the samples.
