Abstract
Bamboo-based composite materials used outdoors are exposed to diverse natural climates, necessitating an understanding of their surface, physical, and mechanical properties for long-term use. This study evaluated changes in chemical composition, surface color, microstructure, and physicomechanical attributes of bamboo scrimber composite (BSC) manufactured from heat-treated moso bamboo bundles and phenol formaldehyde resin. Over two years of weathering, photodegradation affects bamboo and phenol formaldehyde resin, especially lignin, causing surface discoloration and cracking. Initial weathering stages reduced the width swelling rate, thickness swelling rate, and shear strength of BSC. Despite this, two-year weathered BSC meets the Chinese GB/T 30364-2013 standard for outdoor flooring and exhibits strong weather resistance.
